This is a totally off post but when has any of mine been "on" anyway? I am not even sure why I said what I said but as a teenager, I had seen Devil Wears Prada, and I always wanted my red-soled Louboutins.
Priced at nearly a lac (rupees) mostly, I kinda knew they were going to be out of my reach. Not that I thought that I'd never earn as much, but mostly because I thought, I'd never have as much heart.
However, I have always loved heels and so, I went from Woodland to Metro to Tresmode or anything that came in between. I was reasonably proud of my collection too.

But then, the other day, I was watching suits and I saw Jessica wearing them heels. The age-old love was rekindled again. I thought, maybe I should buy them and so I went to Metro and bought the new red-soled heels. It's not the Louboutin red but it's red and for a lot of people who don't know the difference, it is quite a flex!
A lot of people don't even know as much finesse and luxury and they judge the footwear by the person who is wearing it. You see, a lot of stuff comes together to make a persona. The same holds true for business too but that discussion is for another time.
LOL! were you guys seriously expecting that I'd buy a Louboutin, NAAH!! I am smart enough and a true believer in jugaad.
---------------
Part two of the story is that I have always idolized Miranda Priestly and more recently Jessica Pearson from Suits. As a child, it was a good idol to have- someone who was ambitious, someone who was a lady and a Boss one at that. Knowing a leader who wasn't a Harvey Specter. A lot of times, I think- what would Jessica do- should I really lose my cool like that, what would be a smart and yet ruthless way to negotiate?
I also admire Indira Gandhi for her courage. Not as much for her decisions but she was a force. I aspire to know as much as Sarojini Naidu, Mahashweta Devi, Mahadevi Varma or others knew. I want to understand what it was like for Gargi, Maitreyi, Ubhaya, and Akka Mahadevi.
I think we need more and more powerful representations of women. I'll not lie, a lot of times I judge women too- for the kind of business sense they come with and the level of emotional quotient they put on the table. It's work, let's not get emotional is something that I have always believed in but, I think that is mostly because most women haven't known how powerful a tool it can be. When they did, it was termed "tiya Charitra" or the random rona-gana of women.
I think we as women have also tried and subdued other females or their achievements. I think that there is a lot wrong with the world, with the way women entrepreneurs are perceived but for now, I'd wear my New Red-soled Not Louboutins and head out for making a mark because everything happens- one day at a time!
